METALLICA guitarist Kirk Hammett will be performing with FLUX QUARTET on Thursday, September 15 at the Herbst Theatre in San Francisco, California. Kirk and FLUX QUARTET will perform a world-premiere collaboration: "SAS" (for string quartet and improvised electric guitar), a work written by the QUARTET's experimental violinist Thomas Chiu. The Morrison Artists Series celebrates 50 years of presenting, free of charge, the world's best chamber music to Bay Area audiences. Also on the program is the ST. LAWRENCE STRING QUARTET, an ensemble the New Yorker hails as "remarkable not simply for the quality of their music making…but for the joy they take in the act of connection." The ST. LAWRENCE performs "String Quartet Opus 96 in F Major" (American) by Antonin Dvorak and then is joined by the FLUX and San Francisco Symphony bassist Stephen Tramontozzi for "Last Rounds" (for double string quartet and double bass) by Osvaldo Golijov. FLUX rounds out the program with a "classical" work, "String Quartet No. 3" by Conlon Nancarrow.

With the 35th anniversary of Janis Joplin's death on October 4, 1970, comes the digitally remastered deluxe edition of Joplin's masterpiece, originally released posthumously in 1971. The first disc features all 10 tracks (five of them now classic rock staples, including the number one single Me and Bobby McGee) from Pearl, plus six bonus tracks, including Joplin singing happy birthday to John Lennon. The second disc features 13 live tracks culled from the 1970 cross-Canada summer Festival Express tour with her Full Tilt Boogie Band (of which four of the five band members were Canadian, including organist Ken Pearson of Montreal). There's plenty of previously unreleased stuff here and some of it actually sounds pretty good. In the excellent accompanying essay, Joplin's road manager John Cooke notes Joplin was beginning to learn the difference between singing on the road and in the studio. Had she lived, Lord knows how good she would've become.

Russell Crow: That bad boy from down under won't have to worry anymore about the Manhattan hotel worker he hit with a telephone. The actor's publicist told reporters that his client and concierge Nestor Estrada have reached a settlement that made both sides happy -- translation: money, honey. Crowe appeared on David Letterman's show after he clocked the Mercer Hotel employee in June and called his conduct, "possibly the most shameful situation that I've ever gotten myself into in my life, and I've done some pretty dumb things in my life." Can I get an Amen?. Details of the financial settlement were not disclosed.

Simply Red front man Mick Hucknall was attacked during a performance in Cuba when a crazed fan jumped on stage. The man ran on stage and tried to punch the singer who fought back and ended up pushing the attacker into the orchestra pit. The show was then ended and police arrested the man. Hucknall's manager Ian Grenfell gave the following comment: "We don't know what the man's intentions were; the whole incident is really bizarre" and he adds "Police said the man was stoned ...." Mick handled the incident like a Gent by saying 'Thank you, good night. That is the end of the show."

Courtney Love says the baby she is carrying is definitely British comedian Steve Coogan's baby - because she hasn't slept with another man for a year. The rocker confused everyone last week by denying she was expecting a child and her two-week fling with Coogan. Britain's News of the reports in an interview with Love: "I'm pregnant. I only found out 72 hours go. I've only told three people and you're the fourth. I haven't even told Steve yet”, and continues "I've been really unslutty and really picky. I haven't been with another man for a year, which is how I know the baby is his." The blonde star says she is now considering whether to keep the baby or not. "I'm old and this maybe my last chance to conceive another child." On her unlikely choice of partner, she said of Steve - whose TV alter-ego is nerdy radio DJ Alan Partridge: "Steve is not the sort of man I usually go for. Honey, name the 20 sexiest man in the world and I've slept with them”….something to be proud off ??

Fellow metalheads Judas Priest and Anthrax, both of whom are in the midst of reunion tours with their original lead singers--will link up for most of Priest's upcoming North American concerts.
The fall leg of Priest's outing kicks off Sept. 23 and is scheduled to wrap up in late October. Anthrax will be on board from Sept. 24 through Oct. 18, according to the group's publicist. Priest is backing its latest album, "Angel of Retribution," which surfaced in March. The set is the group's first since 1990's "Painkiller" to feature original vocalist Rob Halford, who left the group in the early '90s to pursue a solo career. The group replaced him with Ripper Owens, who was discovered while fronting a Judas Priest tribute band (reminds me of that movie …Rockstar). Halford returned to the fold to help assemble the band's "Metalogy" box set, and the collaboration led to a full-out reunion that started with a slot on last year's Ozzfest tour. Anthrax is gearing up for the Sept. 20 release of "Anthrology: No Hit Wonders (1985-1991)," a two-CD collection of remastered, previously released material; and "Anthrology: No Hit Wonders (1985-1991) The Videos," a DVD that will house live footage as well as nine of the group's music videos, including "Bring Tha Noize" featuring Public Enemy. Earlier this year, Anthrax members Joey Belladonna (vocals), Frankie Bello (guitar), Charlie Benante (drums), Scott Ian (bass) and Danny Spitz (guitar) reunited for their first performances together since 1992. The quintet's first meeting in over 10 years is captured on a forthcoming DVD titled "Alive 2," which will also feature rehearsals and behind-the-scenes footage, as well as performances of 13 songs recorded this year during the band's reunion outing.

MOTLEY CRUE guitarist Mick Mars spoke to MTV.com recently about the possibility of a new record from the band. "There is a new album in the works, but we're taking our time on it," Mars said. "For me, I would like to see like a Sgt. Pepper, an Electric Ladyland, something really outstanding and new. I have a zillion ideas and I'm sure Nikki (Sixx - bass) and Tommy (Lee - drums) and Vince (Neil - vocals) do, as well. We just haven't sat down and started working together yet, because the tour's been so extensive."

Singer Kate Bush will release her first album in 12 years in November - a double album entitled Aerial. It will follow a single, King of the Mountain, scheduled to release on 24 October. Both the single and album are produced by Bush herself. The 47-year-old performer's last album, The Red Shoes, reached number two in the UK album chart in 1993. Bush became famous in 1978 with her debut hit Wuthering Heights, which topped the UK chart for four weeks, followed by her acclaimed debut album The Kick Inside. The Singer had a string of hit albums and singles including Babooshka, Running Up That Hill and Don't Give Up, a duet with Peter Gabriel. The next phase of Bush's recording career was the focus of much speculation, while artists including Tori Amos, PJ Harvey and Goldfrapp cited her as an important influence in their careers. Bush's new album will be released in the UK on 7 November and in the US one day later.

For the second time in two years, Garfunkel has been arrested on a pot charge. The Daily Freeman of Kingston reported today that the singer was charged with pot possession on Sunday in upstate New York after a state patrolman pulled him for failing to stop at a stop sign. Last year, he was caught with the weed after his limo was pulled for speeding near Woodstock. The latest arrest will force Garfunkel to appear in court to answer the charges against him on September 22. Maybe he should start taking a cab ….

Oasis star Liam Gallagher and fiancée Nicole Appleton have sparked marriage rumors after being spotted wearing wedding bands. The wild rocker and the former All Saints singer had a short brake on Lake Como, in Italy, with four-year-old son Gene. A spokeswoman for Oasis has refused to comment on the whether the pair have tied the knot, while a spokesperson for Nicole denied the claims, saying the couple were on holiday with "no other agenda." A friend of the couple said: "The two of them have been talking a lot about marriage lately. It'd just be like Liam to say, 'I'm mad for it' and get wed without any fuss."

Pamela Anderson has recorded a duet with Bryan Adams. The former 'Baywatch' babe has teamed up with the crooner to record a version of Bryan's 1998 hit 'When You're Gone', which he originally sang with former Spice Girl Melanie C. A source revealed to Britain's Telegraph newspaper: "Bryan has just been in LA recording 'When You're Gone' with Pammy. They have been close for a while now and seemed really excited to have the chance to work with one another again." The pair - who are both Canadian - first worked on Bryan's book, 'Made In Canada'.
